More Information

What is the scope of Packaged Retail Investment and Insurance-based Products (PRIIPs) regulation?

Packaged Retail Investment and Insurance-based Products (PRIIPs) regulation was created by the European Commission and became effective on January 1, 2018. The scope of the regulation is to provide an extra layer of protection to retail investors in the European Economic Area who intent to acquire manufactured products with payoffs dependent on the value or the performance of a different asset or a basket of assets.

As a result, the regulation requires that distribution to retail investors of the products is accompanied by a Key Information Document (“KID”).

KIDs follow a standardized, comprehensive, and clear format, which will assist investors to have a better overview of the characteristics, risks, and potential performance of such products. Further, the standardized format of KIDs aims to facilitate comparison among similar products that may be marketed to investors.
