AIFs Law
The Alternative Investment Funds Law ("AIFs Law") was enacted in 2014 and has aligned the Cyprus legal regulatory framework with the latest EU directives on asset management, transparency, and investor protection. Consequently, the new AIF law replaced and repealed the International Collective Investment Schemes Law of 1999. The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commision of Cyprus ("CySEC") is the competent authority which exercises authorization, regulatory and supervisory duties which were formerly attributed to the Central Bank of Cyprus. CySEC has also issued supplementary directives in accordance with the AIFs Law. An AIF can take the following types of legal forms and may be established with limited or unlimited duration:
⦁ Common Fund
⦁ Fixed or Variable Capital Investment Company
⦁ Limited Liability Partnership
